The Shell drilling rig Polar Pioneer arrives in city that's drilling the energy industry

The towering Polar Pioneer, one of two Arctic-bound Shell drilling rigs, arrived at the Seattle waterfront Thursday afternoon, to an uneasy home port in a city protesting energy companies and the carbon economy on several fronts and multiple ways. Sea-borne kayakers greeted the Polar Pioneer, with a much bigger seaborne protest planned for Saturday, and a land based protest Monday that intends to shut down work being done at Terminal 5 to prepare for Shell’s drilling in Alaska’s Chukchi Sea.
