Bellingham to hold ceremony on first Coast Salish Day

For the first time, the city will celebrate Coast Salish Day on the day federally recognized as Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 12. There will be a celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at City Hall, 210 Lottie St ., that will include speakers and performers from Lummi Nation, Nooksack Indian Tribe, and Bellingham City Council. “It’s going to be an incredible experience that people won’t want to miss,” said Roxanne Murphy, the Bellingham City Council member who helped propose the change last year to honor local tribes.
