Bellingham Museums

There is a broad range of museum experiences in Bellingham. The Whatcom Museum downtown on Prospect is your quintessential natural history and fine arts museum, full of local artifacts that tell the story of Bellingham in times long passed.

The Family Interactive Gallery, a partner of the Whatcom Museum, is on Flora Street, open Wednesdays through Sundays and is the perfect place for a family date on a rainy day. This hands-on museum offers self-directed exploration and play with an emphasis on science, technology, problem-solving, literacy, cross-cultural experiences and more.

The Bellingham Railway Museum is on Commercial Street and aims to provide the community with a tangible understanding of their railroad heritage and operations. This museum is family-friendly and hopes to allow all visitors an opportunity to learn, look, and listen all while having fun. The Bellingham Railway Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12PM – 5PM.

For something a little different, check out Mindport on West Holly Street. Mindport is a museum of phenomena, often described as a science museum; full of interactive and artistic exhibits. As Mindport’s staff put it, they “try to dignify the ‘trivial’, the ‘silly’, the humorous, and the personal because they are at the root of what it is to be human.”
